Fort Fisher

Family Lifestyle Session

A family lifestyle photography session at Battery Buchanan in Fort Fisher offers a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and relaxed coastal charm. Nestled at the southern end of Kure Beach, North Carolina, this historic site provides a picturesque backdrop with its grassy dunes, remnants of Civil War fortifications, and expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Fear River. The late afternoon sun casts a warm, golden hue over the landscape, perfect for capturing candid moments and the genuine connections between family members. Children can be seen exploring the old battlements, their laughter mingling with the sound of crashing waves, while parents watch with smiles, creating an atmosphere of joy and togetherness that is ideal for lifestyle photography.

During this session, I used both a digital camera and medium format film camera to capture the family's interactions and the stunning scenery. The Contax 645 with the 80mm f2 Zeiss Planar lens, paired with Kodak Portra 400 film was my choice for this session, it provided a rich, timeless quality to the images. The film's fine grain and excellent color reproduction highlighted the soft, natural light and vibrant tones of the coastal environment. Each frame taken on the Contax 645 offered a beautiful depth of field, bringing a dreamy, ethereal quality to the portraits. The combination of digital and film allowed for a diverse collection of photographs, blending modern clarity with classic film aesthetics, perfectly encapsulating the essence of a family enjoying a sunny afternoon at one of North Carolina's historic treasures.
